Despite the UK leaving the EU on January 31st 2020, it still remains in a transition period until the end of the year.

According to Reuters, Boris Johnson’s spokesman restated that they anticipate reaching a trade deal with the EU as soon as possible.

The spokesman expressed to reporters, “We’ve been clear that we want to reach a free trade agreement as soon as possible – that has been our position throughout the negotiations and it remains our position,”

“Our negotiating position remains the same: we want an agreement that allows us to take back control of our money, laws and borders. We will continue to work hard to reach an agreement today and next week.”

Ambassadors have been informed by the EU negotiating team that London has not yet responded to three key Brexit topics, fisheries, governance, and a level playing field.

Unaffected by Brexit headlines, the GBP/USD paid has regained to just below the 1.3300 mark.
